Inan Itah Ecovillage
Inanitah is an intentional community and ecovillage on the Nicaraguan island of Ometepe.
Their name is inspired by the Aztec equivalent of the concept of “Ying-Yang” or “ometeotl” the divine duality.
Ometepe itself is representative of this concept, as it is an infinity-symbol- shaped island in the middle of a vast, sweet water lake with a volcano on each side, one filled with lava, the other filled with water.
Ometepe has a very powerful energy to it, and along with the many locals, there is a strong presence of spiritual people from all over the world that come here to gather for healing arts and intentional connection.
Inanitah offers a visitors program, workshops, a volunteer program, and weekly cacao ceremonies. They have a permaculture garden, cabins and A-frames, daily gatherings, yoga, breathwork, tantra, etc.
You can walk from Inanitah down into town where there are many shops, restaurants and beautiful beaches. My personal favorite was El Pital Chocolate Paradise, a chocolate factory, restaurant, healing arts center, hotel, beach/lounge where you can do an informational cacao tour and tasting, eat delicious food and chocolate concoctions, go swimming, attend a healing arts practice, or just relax in a beautiful and comfortable setting with a view of the volcano in the distance.
Inanitah served food made by locals every lunchtime, dinners were made by volunteers, and breakfasts were self-made with the ingredients found in the central kitchen and permaculture garden/forest. There is a pool and hot tub with a gorgeous view of the volcano and sunset, showers, a pig named Chancho who would eat our non-compostable leftovers, lots of cute little chihuahuas running around looking for cuddles, a fire circle, a treehouse, a multipurpose building for rest, yoga, gathering, reading, etc. A safe to put your important belongings in if you don’t want to carry them around with you or leave them in your tent.
Laundry, massage and taxi services are available from locals, and you can rent a motorbike from town if you’d like to explore on your own.
I highly recommend staying at Inanitah and doing their cacao ceremony, permaculture garden tour and breathwork sessions. They also have transparency circles where we gather and share truths about ourselves that will help the community know each other more deeply and be able to relate to each other more respectfully and intentionally.
For volunteers, we do a shorter version of this more often, checking in to see the energy level and emotional state of each volunteer, what needs to be done that day, and what each volunteer feels called and happy to do.
Inanitah is a much smaller intentional community than others, and this way it is much easier to get to know the people there with you much more deeply. If you are looking for strong connection in a more intimate community that is a very safe and honoring space that is very close to nature, Inanitah is perfect for you.
