Gaarawé Ecovillage
Gaarawé Ecovillage is located near Khao Sok National Park in Southern Thailand. It is run by an Italian expatriate, Lele, and friends from his neighborhood. Gaarawé is named after the local flower that grows on the property, the Gaarawé flower.
Gaarawé features a regenerative water system that captures and filters rainwater, a permaculture food forest, chickens, two lovely dogs, natural bamboo-built bungalows and kitchen.
Gaarawé is located close to a river where you can go tubing, a town with good food, massages, and a park to explore, and the Khao Sok area is so gorgeous with its mountains, river and lake, that there is so many beautiful sights to discover.
The dry season (Nov-March) is Gaarawé’s peak season (it’s the peak season of Thailand in general) and I recommend visiting in this time range if you want to avoid the rainy season and experience Gaarawé at its fullest in terms of people there.
The accommodations and hospitality are wonderful, especially given the inexpensive price. I stayed one month for about 300 USD (10,000THB) and that covered delicious meals, housing, water and laundry. It’s a wonderful place with great people where you can experience a permaculture project firsthand, enjoy the local scenery and area, and support Lele with his dream.
Lele recently got into a terrible motorcycle ccident, and could really use lots of support from visitors to keep Gaarawé alive and flourishing! Get in touch with and learn more about Lele and Gaarawé on Instagram, Facebook, by email, or on their website!
Being surrounded by nature, eating food from the land, and being in good company is very good for the soul! You can also go on plenty of adventures, getting to see the beauty of Khao Sok and Southern Thailand while staying somewhere inexpensive and long-term. I recommend staying two weeks to a month or longer if you’d really like to be a part of supporting Gaarawé long term!
